Mady & Matt’s Wedding at Snow Valley: A Romantic Summer Celebration in Edmonton

A dreamy summer wedding at Snow Valley Resort in Edmonton, full of heartfelt moments, handcrafted details, and a love story that started in law school. As their Edmonton wedding coordinator, I’ll never forget this day.

A Full-Circle Moment in Edmonton

Some weddings are just unforgettable. Mady and Matt’s celebration in Edmonton wasn’t just a beautiful day—it was a love story brought to life.

When Mady first reached out for coordination, her name sounded familiar. It took a little while, but eventually we realized we’d both gone to Holy Trinity High School here in Edmonton, I was just a year ahead. That connection made our planning journey feel even more special—like we were meant to cross paths again for this.

The Weather Shift That Changed Everything

Their wedding took place at Snow Valley Ski Resort, transformed into a dreamy summer venue surrounded by trees and soft, rolling hills. I’d been watching the forecast closely all week. Even that morning, the skies looked uncertain. Then, just one hour before the ceremony, the clouds lifted and the sun broke through. It felt like a quiet blessing, setting the perfect tone for what was to come.

A Moment That Meant Everything

Moments before the first look, I helped Mady get into the venue before Matt saw her. She turned to me and said, “Shannie, you are such a comforting presence today.” I’ll never forget that. It was one of those small, sincere exchanges that stays with you. The kind that reminds me why I love being an Edmonton wedding planner.

A Law School Love Story

Their officiant shared the heart of their journey. Mady and Matt met during their first year of law school in Saskatoon. Their friendship turned to love during third year, in the middle of lockdowns, study marathons, and a campus that was mostly closed. After graduation, they faced the challenge of a long-distance relationship—Mady in Calgary and Matt in Saskatoon. But they made it work with determination and weekly drives, building a foundation that proved unshakable.

The Three-Things Tradition

One of the most touching parts of the ceremony was a tradition they’ve kept since early in their relationship. On birthdays and anniversaries, they each write three things they love about the other. During the ceremony, they shared them with all of us:

Mady loves:

  • Matt’s generosity and how he always puts his people first

  • His grounded, intelligent perspective on life

  • How he makes her feel safe, valued, and excited for the future

Matt loves:

  • Mady’s sense of humor and their endless inside jokes

  • How she’s always waiting for him with a smile after a hard day

  • Her fierce loyalty to those she loves

A Ceremony Full of Personal Touches

There was thought in every detail. Mady’s dad built the wooden arch they stood under. Their nephews, dressed as “ring security,” charmed everyone. Mady’s lace gown was soft and romantic, and her bridal party wore pastels with parasols and lush, summery bouquets.

Golden Hour and a Dreamy Reception

As the sun dipped low, their golden hour portraits were everything. The reception glowed with floating candles and delicate florals. Later in the evening, Mady changed into a vintage-inspired corset gown that completely stole the show. Their cake-cutting moment was joyful, heartfelt, and full of love.

A Wedding I’ll Always Remember

Being part of Mady and Matt’s wedding was an absolute gift. As an Edmonton wedding coordinator, I live for weddings like this—personal, meaningful, and full of intentional beauty.

Mady and Matt, thank you for trusting me with your story.

3 Things Engaged Couples Should Do First

Congratulations on your engagement! This is such an exciting milestone in your journey together. Now that you’ve said “yes,” you might be wondering, “Where do we even begin?” Don’t worry—we’re here to guide you. Here are the top three things every couple should do right after getting engaged to set the stage for an incredible wedding day.

1. Talk About the Big Picture

Before diving into details, take some time to sit down with your partner and have an honest conversation about the big decisions. Here are the key points to cover:

  • Decision Makers: Who’s making the calls? Are you two making all the decisions, or will family be involved? Getting clear on this early will save you from future headaches.

  • Your Budget: Yep, the money talk. Figure out how much you want to spend and whether anyone is pitching in. This will help guide everything, from your guest list to the vendors you choose.

  • Top Priorities: What’s most important to you? Maybe it’s having an epic dance floor, a cozy ceremony, or a killer dinner menu. Lock down your “must-haves” now, so they stay top of mind as you plan.

Pro Tip: Don’t try to do everything in one conversation! This is just about getting on the same page as a team.

2. Book a Wedding Planner

Planning a wedding is a lot. That’s why hiring a wedding planner is hands-down one of the best things you can do for yourself. Not only will you save time and stress, but you’ll also have someone in your corner to guide you through every step. Having a wedding planner is one of the best ways to make the planning process fun and stress-free. Your wedding day only happens once, so why not have someone by your side to make sure it’s seamless?

At Blush & Bordeaux Events, based right here in Edmonton, we work with couples to bring their dream weddings to life. Whether you’re just starting to plan or need day-of coordination, we’re here to make your wedding journey as smooth as possible.

Here’s what we can help with:

  • Breaking down the planning process into manageable steps

  • Connecting you with Edmonton’s top vendors and venues

  • Keeping you on track with timelines, budgets, and priorities

  • Coordinating every detail on your big day so you can soak in every moment

With a planner in your corner, you’ll have more time to enjoy being engaged and less time stressing over logistics.

3. Check In With Your VIPs

Weddings are all about celebrating with your favorite people, so figure out who your VIPs are—those people you absolutely can’t imagine saying “I do” without.

Once you know who they are, check in with them about your potential wedding date and location. Making sure your inner circle can be there will give you peace of mind and helps you feel confident that the people you love most will be there to celebrate with you, making your day even more special.

Enjoy Being Engaged

Before wedding planning really ramps up, take a moment to enjoy this season. Being engaged is such a beautiful time, and it goes by quickly!

When you’re ready to start planning, we’d love to help you create a wedding day that’s as unique and special as your love story. Let’s make your dream wedding a reality!
